In Every High and Stormy Gale

Life is truly an unspeakable gift of God. In this life, we take joy in calm days of sunshine when all is well. However, in this life, there will be storms when the winds of doubt blow wildly, rain blinds the eyes, and the harsh sound of the thunder and fierce streaks of lightning cause fear. What shall we do in the time of storms? During storms we must wrap ourselves in the promises of God.

David was acquainted with storms. In Psalm 55:8, David cried: “I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.” At the end of Psalm 55, David says: “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” (Psa. 55:22)

David knew a sure shelter for every high and stormy gale. In Psalm 61:2-3 David declares: “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I for Thou hast been a shelter for me.” David also knew the joy of the calm peace after the storm. “He maketh the storms a calm so that the waves thereof are still.” (Psa. 107:29) God’s anchor holds, His rock hides, and His shelter is secure in every high and stormy gale as He whispers: “Peace, peace , be still.”

“He maketh the storms a calm so that the waves thereof are still.” (Psalm 107:29)
